Changes to eMPDS - 2010

Thank you for all your comments and suggestions on the eMPDS system over the past year. We have been working with the developers to implement many of them and have now launched our upgrade.
The full list of the changes may be found here.
What’s new for Developing Engineers and MPDS mentors?
Developing Engineers will now be able to see who their current mentor is. Mentor details will be present in the developing engineer’s profile and this information will import into quarterly reports.
Specifically for mentor’s; training can now be recorded, for example, mentoring as part of MPDS or work undertaken in becoming conversant with EC UK-SPEC. We recommend that all mentors keep their training up to date by attending some form of training every two years.
Quarterly reports only need to be 200-500 words long. There is no longer an option to allow for the overspill of text. The functionality supports succinct reporting. The ability to upload over 500 words for quarterly reports onto eMPDS will cease to be available from October 31st 2010.
The format of the quarterly report has been adapted and the template now accepts bulleted lists. We encourage developing engineers to submit quarterly reports in this format, using bulleted lists with an explanation of what work has been undertaken. Quarterly reports using this revised format will be accepted as part of an application for professional registration. Quarterly reports that are written in the first person narrative will also still be accepted.
From 1st October 2010, the format for submission of a professional development application will need to include the most recent four quarterly reports, the penultimate annual assessment report and the final annual assessment report.

eMPDS tip of the month

Short and Sweet - Keep to the word limit
All quarterly reports now have a word limit ranging from 200 – 500 words per section. The reason for this is to help you demonstrate competence D - Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills. Communicating effectively and concisely how you have met the UK-SPEC competences is an important skill that needs to be demonstrated before gaining Full Membership and Professional Registration.
