Last Friday on the 24th of July the IMECHE Student Chapter of UNITEN held its membership drive talk which took place in the BL lecture hall College of Engineering. The talk is intended to introduce students to IMECHE and also the recent inception of IMECHE Student Chapter Committee in UNITEN.

The speaker for the day was the Chairman of YMS (Young Member) Dr. Rajkumar Durairaj. Also present were IMECHE Student Chapter supervisors, Ir. Dr. Ramesh Singh and Mr. Tan Chou Yong. Emcee for the day was Roger Yang Yong Seng, the vice-president of the IMECHE Student Chapter.

Although attendance was not encouraging due to unforeseen circumstances, the objective of the event was achieved as 7 foundation students were given exposure to the IMECHE as an engineering organisation. Dr. Rajkumar’s presentation was short and distinct highlighting the benefits of becoming a member of the IMECHE and the road to getting a chartered engineer status and its significance.

The Q&A session was opened to the floor as questions were poured in by fellow students. At the end of the talk, Dr. Tan Chou Yong, the advisor of the club was invited to present a token of appreciation to Dr. Rajkumar. Students and the guests were invited to a light refreshment.

The ice-breaking session commenced right after that where students were given chance to get to know the committee members of the IMECHE Student Chapter. This was important as bridge the social gaps between the committee members and the students so that the committee members will be able to serve for the club at the expense of themselves and the students’ for their own advantage.
