The IMECHE Student Chapter Launch
UNITEN made its history on the 3rd of April 2008 when the Institute of Mechanical Engineers United Kingdom (IMECHE) accredited the university mechanical engineering degree program, thus setting up a milestone in standing at par with other well known universities around the world. The launching of The Student Chapter took place in the main hall at College of Information Technology, Universiti Tenaga Nasional. It was launched by the President of IMECHE, Mr John Baxter who travelled from United Kingdom, accompanied by his wife and associates.
The arrival of Mr Baxter and his wife along with associates were greeted by academic staffs,
Mr Tan Chou Yong and Ir. Dr Ramesh Singh along with the Dean of Mechanical Engineering Department, Ir. Dr Zamri Yusof.
The ceremony was initiated with the singing of Negaraku and the University’s corporate song, which then later followed by an opening speech by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mashkuri Bin Yaacob in welcoming Mr John Baxter. Then, Mr Baxter was invited to give speech in which he spoke about his previous posts and project participations.
The idea of Student Chapter was initially thought by Dr Ramesh, who firmly believes that involvement and participation from undergraduates into the IMECHE society will further increase awareness and interests among them along with more effective dissemination of information. The event progressed through the video presentation of UNITEN’s past and present achievements. Later on the officiating of the Student
Chapter Launch took place where Mr Baxter handed down his signature to the mock certificate indicating the official beginning of the IMECHE Student Chapter in UNITEN. The ceremony ended with invitation to all attendants for lunch in the faculty’s foyer.
Message from the Chairman IMechE Malaysia Branch
It gives me great satisfaction to see the first of the IMechE Malaysia Branch Student Chapter being official formed at UNITEN. With the setting up of this blogspot it will also make sure that the UNITEN IMechE Student Chapter is live and active.
Let me congratulate the committee of UNITEN IMechE Student Chapter for the excellent job done during the recent presidential visit on 3rd April 2008 by Mr. John Baxter when the president presented the IMechE Accreditation Certificate and launched the Student Chapter. The Malaysia Branch Committee is glad to see the commitment of both the students and the academic staff to ensure your early professional development taking of during the student’s stint in the varsity.
IMechE Malaysia Branch will be active in supporting the student chapters but it will be left to you to take the initiative.
